WORKS
UNTITLED, 2007
Pinholes on paper, 40 x 30 cm

This work stems from an incident that my Palestinian friend and I experienced during our residency at the Cittadellarte-Fondazione Pistoletto, where we were approached by the Carabinieri Police who demanded that we show our IDs. While we were unable to show identification at that instant, the Police also did not believe that we were residents at the Fondazione. Although the situation was eventually resolved, I wrote a letter to the Police later to establish a personal connection to discuss the Pistoletto Foundation, its work, what we were doing during our Artist Residencies, and to understand what their work entailed. This work features the letter written with pinholes, a gesture I adopted as I received no response from the Police. The work confronts the nature of identity which remains fraught between legal and humanitarian grounds, across the planet.
